Avoiding Plagiarism

Listed below are some ways to avoid plagiarism. Remember: if you did not write it, cite it.
  1. Use your own works when working on assignments.
  2. Do your own work. Never copy data or written work.
  3. If you use someone else's work or ideas, cite it.
  4. Never copy and paste directly, especially from the Internet.
  5. Develop a system for keeping track of direct quotes, others ideas, and paraphrased sentences.
  6. Do not make things up, especially when citing your sources. In experiments, report all of your results.
  7. Do not buy papers on the Internet or from other sources.
  8. Know the rules for you specific assignment, especially when doing group work or take home exams.
  9. If you are unsure about citing something, ask your instructor. When in doubt, ask.
  10. If you are still unsure, cite your source anyway.
