APA (American Psychological Association) and MLA (Modern
Language Association) citation styles are commonly
used on university campuses. APA is used in the
behavioral and social sciences. If you are taking
a class in business, criminal justice, education,
engineering, psychology, sociology, or social work,
your instructor may require that your papers be
in APA format.
MLA is used in the humanities. If you are taking
a class in art, communications, english, foreign
language, history, literature, music, or philosophy
your instructor may require that you use MLA for
you paper.
Another citation style commonly used is Chicago
Manual of Style (sometimes called Turabian). Turabian
is the student version of Chicago Manual. Other
academic subjects, such as the biological sciences,
have their own citation styles and may be required
by your instructor.
If you are unsure of which citation style you
instructor requires, please ask your instructor.
Citation style books are available in the library.
For assistance, please see a librarian at the
Reference Desk located on 2nd floor east.
